Coach Mbabazi Oliver

When I interviewed Coach Mbabazi, she told me that playing football(soccer) has been her dream. When PEYTSAR program came into the local community she was so so happy,  She contacted the program dirctor to see if she could join the volunteer coaching team, and help out. The program director was welcoming and asked her to join the coaching team

In addition, Mbabazi mentioned that most of the local children are interested in playing sport, but there are very few mentors  or volunteer coaches to help the youth. She continued, "Our young girls face a lot difficulties playing sports. You will that find that most of the girls in our community still have the old mental picture (belief) that football is only for men or boys." At the time when Coach Mbabazi played football, she also  had the same belief, but the more she kept on playing, the more she gained confidence and loved the game.

She praised PEYTSAR for bringing such a good structural program to schools and the community of Massindi. As an example: in 2013, PEYTSAR conducted an afterschool sports program at Kabalega Primary School and provided over 105 t-shirts without cost to school children, including volunteer coaches.

Hopefully, the program will be able to continue to support girls who currectly do not have proper attire to put on during the  program. [See picture above]. Most of the participating girls wear skirts because they don't have sports shorts yet. Sometimes it makes practices difficult when chasing the ball.

Coach Mbabazi also mentioned that the PEYTSAR program should advise some parents and teachers, who view  sports as time wasting, and who prefer children to stay on academics without having a taste of of playWe

ask people who have good heart to help us in achieving our PEYTSAR goals.

The Program for Educating Youth Through Sports and Recreation (PEYTSAR) targets primarily youth at risk aged 7-18.

Without proper direction or guidance, many Ugandan youth can drop out of school or turn to crime.

This program provides a healthy and fun alternative.  It teaches helpful life skills and character development. It also encourages youth to stay in school and become educated.

PEYSTAR allows them express feelings, share talents with others, and feel like a contributing part of society.

PEYTSAR focuses on after-school mentorship through sports. One mentor will be paired up with a group of 20 youth.

Each mentor will provide five subjects (soccer, volleyball, breakdance, art, track & field, scout & guide), through which they will role model character values, and the importance of education.
